1.Active volcanoes: These volcanoes are presently in a state of continous eruption.

Example: Mt. Mauna Loa in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

2.Dormant volcanoes: These have erupted in the recent past, and are likely to erupt again.

Example: Mt. Killimanjaro in Africa.

3.Extinct volcanoes: These have not erupted in the recent past, and are unlikely to erupt anymore,

Example: Mt. Vesuvius in Italy.
