Picture a house plant. You probably see some green leaves, stems, and a root system submerged in the pot. The leaves might look homogenous on the outside, but inside the plant is a complex system of tissues, or cells, arranged into a functional structure. These tissues are similar to the tissues in our body. They exist in different places, serving different purposes for the plant, such as making and storing food, transporting water, and allowing the plant to grow both above and below ground. There are three types of tissues: simple, complex and special. Today we're going to look at the structure and function of each in your plant.
