On the basis of availability resources are classified into two main categories:

1. Renewable Resources : The resources which can be renewed or reproduced by physical , chemical or mechanical processes are known as renewable resources.
2. Non Renewable Resources : These resources occur over a very long geological time. Mineral and fossil fuels are examples of such resources. These resources take millions of yearsin their formation. Some of these resources such as metals can be reused or recycled but some of them like fossil fuels cannot be recycled and is exhausted with its use.
