MLA- Member of Legislative Assembly. When there are state elections, the candidate of any political party who wins from a particular area is a member of legislative assembly. The party whose no. of MLAs are above 50% of the total seats becomes the ruling party of state. The duty of MLA is to take care of various things of his/her constituency or seat.

MLC- Member of Legislative Council. Like there is a state legislative assembly, there is a state Legislative Council. They both are like Lok Sabha And RajyaSabha respectively. The members of LC are not elected by people but by the MLA, Mayors, Councillors of that particular state. The Legislative council is present only in big states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashta, etc.

MP- Member of Parliament. He can be member of Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha. The party whose no. of MPs in Lok Sabha are above 50% of the total seats becomes the ruling party of centre. MPs have bigger constituencies than MLAs. Rajya Sabha MPs are elected by MLAs of a particular state, Councillors, etc whereas Lok Sabha MPs are elected by people in the general election.

Mayor- Mayor or Mahapaur is the head of the Municipal Corporation(Big cities) or Municipal Council(Small cities) of cities. Just like chief Minister of the state govt., he orders various works to be carried out in the city that written in the Muncipal Corp./council’s duties. Mayor is also councillor from a particular ward.

Minister- A Minister can be of a state or at centre. These ministers are selected by the head of that govt.. They are given the responsibilities like Home, Finance, External Affairs, etc. He is an imp. person of the govt. and a part of the cabin
