Classification of given substances as true solutions, suspension and colloids.

  • The solution are of three types namely:
  1. True solution
  2. Colloidal solution
  3. Suspension
  • The type of solution which is homogeneous and is composed of solute and solvent is called a true solution.
  • The type of solution which is chemically heterogeneous but appears as the homogeneous mixture is called a colloidal solution. It has a dispersion medium and dispersed phase.
  • Suspension is a type of solution in which solute gets deposited at the bottom.

Classification of given substances:

Colloids:

  • Ink - Dispersed phase: Solid, Dispersion medium: Liquid, Type: Sol
  • Fog - Dispersed phase: Liquid, Dispersion medium: Gas, Type: Aerosol
  • Atmospheric air - Dispersed phase: Solid, Dispersion medium: Gas Type: Solid Aerosol

Suspension:

  • Dilute rice water is an suspension.
