The above reaction is a decomposition reaction because....BaCO3 decomposes on heating to produce BaO and CO2. Brisk effervescence is seen.

The reaction  BaCO_{3}(s) \\BaO(s) + CO_{2}(g) is a decomposition reaction.

  • In a decomposition reaction, a single compound is decomposed into two or more compounds.
  • In a decomposition reaction, the compound is decomposed by either using heat, UV rays, electric current, or sunlight.
  • It is a reversible reaction.
  • This reaction BaCO_{3}(s) is decomposed into two compounds i.e. BaO(s) + CO_{2}(g).
  • Barium carbonate is decomposed to give barium oxide and carbon dioxide as the products of the decomposition reaction.

Hence, The reaction  BaCO_{3}(s) \\BaO(s) + CO_{2}(g) is a decomposition reaction.
