(i) Golden Quadrilateral Super Highways: These projects are implemented by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). There are three major Super Highways.

Golden Quadrilateral starts from Delhi, moves to Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and back to Delhi.

The North-South Corridor starts from Srinagar to Kanyakumari. The East-West Corridor connects Silchar to Porbandar.

National Highways:

These roads are laid and maintained by Central Public Works Department (CPWD). A number of major National Highways run in North-South and East-West directions, e.g., Sher Shah Suri Marg is called National Highway No.

State Highways:

Roads linking a state capital with different district headquarters are known as state highways. These roads are constructed and maintained by States and Union Territories.

District Roads:

These roads connect the district headquarters with other places of the district. These roads are maintained by the Zila Parishad.

Rural Roads:

These roads link rural areas and villages with towns. These roads are constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Grameen Sadak Yojana.

1. Golden Quadrilateral :- It is a series of 4 National Highways which connect the major four cities of India i.e. Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata for faster transport of goods and services.

2. National Highways :- These are constructed by Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and maintained by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). The Highest National Highway of India is NH-44.

3. State Highways :- These are built by State Public Works Department (SPWD). It connects one city with other cities.

4. District Roads :- These are constructed under various government schemes like Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and provides connectivity in the rural areas of the country.

5. Border Roads :- These are constructed in the border areas of the country. It is mainly constructed for the army uses. It is built by Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
