Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is also called as the Clean India Mission or Clean India drive or Swachh Bharat Campaign. It is a national level campaign run by the Indian Government to cover all the backward statutory towns to make them clean. This campaign involves the construction of latrines, promoting sanitation programmes in the rural areas, cleaning streets, roads and changing the infrastructure of the country to lead the country ahead. This campaign was officially launched by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on 145th birth anniversary of the Mahatma Gandhi on 2nd of October in 2014 at Rajghat, New Delhi.

   Clean India is same as Swachh Bhaarat campaign launched by prime minister Sri Narendra Modi in New Delhi on 2nd, Oct 2014. It is a government sponsored programme intended to clean junk off Indian roads and public places. Swachh Bharat also aims at providing clean potable drinking water to rural and urban areas. All government schools are to be provided with toilets.

   This programme is responsibility of Ministry of Urban and rural development. The various municipalities are responsible to provide potable germ-free water.  The education department and schools have the responsibilities to construct toilets in schools. In rural areas toilets in each house are to be constructed to prevent open defecation in public.

   Since two and half years many waste collection bins are provided at important points in localities. Cleaning activity in all towns and cities are given additional importance and attention.  The issues in all localities have been discussed at length directly and on social media. Many celebrities participated in the campaigns. The government has spent thousands of crores already on this.  

   The poor people are aware of need for sanitation and better quality of life. The image of India in the world has improved. A lot of people have appreciated the program.  The program is intended to realize the dream of Mahatma Gandhi. He wished that all Indians learn about sanitation and practice hygiene it in their lives.
