If knowing whether one of them happened tells us something about whether the others happened is a dependent event. Independent events give us no information about one another the probability of one event occurring does not affect the probability of the other events occurring. Two events, A and B, are independent if the fact that A occurs does not affect the probability of B occurring. The dependent variable is the one that depends on the value of some other number.

An independent event is an event in which the outcome isn't affected by another event. A dependent event is affected by the outcome of a second event.
