Cleistogamy is a type of self-pollination that occurs in plants that are having permanently closed flowers.

These non-opening flowers are known as Cleistogamous flowers.

These flowers are very small, colorless, bisexual and do not secrete any nectar or honey E.g. Groundnut, Oxalis.

When the environment is harsh, plants are more likely to produce cleistogamous flowers having healthier seed with higher germination success.

Answer:

Cleistogamy is a type of automatic self-pollination of certain plants that can propagate by using non-opening, self-pollinating flowers. Especially well known in peanuts, peas, and pansy this behavior is most widespread in the grass family. However, the largest genus of cleistogamous plants is Viola.
