The substance 'X' is Hydrochloric Acid (HCL)

Onion is an example of Olfactory indicator

(a) When Zinc granules is added to HCl, the zinc displaces hydrogen and form Zinc Chloride along with release of hydrogen gas

Zn + 2HCL => ZnCl₂ + H₂

(b) When solid sodium carbonate is added to HCl, the products formed are Sodium chloride, along with Carbon dioxide and water.

Na₂CO₃ + 2HCL => 2NaCl + CO₂ + H₂O

Answer:

zinc granules and solid sodium carbonates

Explanation:

Onion juice is an olfactory indicator.

(a) zinc granules Reaction : Ent 2HCl → 2h Cd at Hz

observation : when a burnt match stick is brought close to the

mouth of the test tube , gas burns with pop sound.

9 Solid sodium carbonate

Reaction : NobelOz t 2h Cd → 2NaCl t Hot CO2

observation : coz that is released turns lime water Milky.
