Clothing played a great role in determining the image women had at that time.The ideal women was who could bear pain and suffering.From childhood the girls had to wear clothes that restricted their body growth.They had to wear tight fitting corsets when they grew a bit older.Women with a short figure and small waist which were tightly laced were considered elegant and beautiful. Petite and frail body made them look submissive and weak.
