EXAMPLE 5.

Can anybody explain why square root isn't used.

since, it's there in distance formula.

SOLUTION.......


Any point on y-axis,
y =0, thèrefore point P = ( x , 0 )
Now,
Point P is equidistant from A and B
So,

PA = PB
 \sqrt{ {(6 - x)}^{2} +  {(5 - 0)}^{2}  }   =   \sqrt{ { ( - 4 - x)}^{2} +  {(3 - 0)}^{2}  }

To solve this,
we get,

x = 9/5.

Therefore, Point P = ( 9/5, 0 ).
