Co-ordinate of point P on a number line is -7 then find the co-ordinate of point on the number line which are at a distance of 8 unit from point P

Distance= √(x-(-7))² + (0-0)²

= 8 =√(x+7)²

squaring both sides

=(x+7)² = 64

taking square root both sides

= x+7 = +8

=x+7 =8 or x+7 = -8

= x = 1 or x = 15
