CO2 gas is released during respiration. what is the role of KOH solution in this experiment. Write the chemical equations for above statement.

Potassium hydroxide plays a vital role in this as;

KOH is a good absorbent.

KOH absorbs the carbon dioxide released by the germinating seeds and a partial vacuum is created because of the loss of carbon dioxide in the flask.

KOH is a strong base (alkali) and CO2is an acidic oxide. ... Here KOH absorbs CO2 rapidly to give K2CO3 and water and potassium carbonate is thermodynamically stable compound .
