Answer:

When Carbon dioxide(CO₂) is passed into concentrated solution of NaCl which is saturated with Ammonia (NH₃), Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO₃) and Ammonium Chloride (NH₄Cl) is formed.

The balanced chemical equation is:

NaCl + NH₃ + CO₂ + H₂O → NaHCO₃ + NH₄Cl

NaHCO₃ further decomposes into Sodium Carbonate (Na₂CO₃).

2NaHCO₃ → Na₂CO₃ + CO₂ + H₂O

Hope this helps.

On passing CO₂ into a concentrated solution of NaCl which is saturated with NH₃, we obtain Sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO₃)

  • The following reaction is a named reaction also called as Solvay process which is used in the industrial manufacture of sodium carbonate.
  • Reaction for the same is as follows:

             NaCl+ NH₄OH +CO₂ → NH₄Cl+NaHCO₃

  • Concentrated sodium chloride reacts with hydroxide of ammonia and carbon dioxide which results in the formation of ammonium chloride and sodium bicarbonate which is the required product,

Thus, In Solvay process, ammonium chloride and sodium bicarbonate are obtained whose balanced chemical equation is  NaCl+ NH₄OH +CO₂ → NH₄Cl+NaHCO₃
