Coal is a non-renewable source of energy. Coal is formed mainly from the remains of dead plants. These dead plants are buried under water in swamps and later under soil and rock. Millions of years of heat and pressure transform the decayed material into coal. Why is coal classified as a non-renewable source of energy?
