Answer :

Coal is falling on a conveyor belt at rate of 2kg/s. We have to find the force required to keep the belt moving with a constant velocity 5m/s.

★ As per Newton's second law of motion, force is defined as the rate of change of linear momentum.

➠ F = dp/dt

➠ F = d(mv)/dt

➠ F = v dm/dt + m dv/dt

ATQ, dv/dt = 0

F = v dm/dt

Substituting the values, we get

➠ F = 5 × 2

F = 10N

Cheers!
