  • Due to the growing demands of the steel industry the systematics exploitation of the coal reserves of the share is found. India has the fifth-largest reserves of the coal in India and about 319.04 billion metric tonnes of reserves i.e 1.23% of the total.
  • States of Telangana and Maharashtra alone account for the 98.265 of the total known coal reserves of India and most of them originate from the Gondwana coal deposits.
  • The rest of coal deposits of the northeast originates from the tertiary system. Tamil Nadu has the largest share of coal i.e 36.12% followed by Rajasthan 6.3%.
