The coconut tree has fibrous or adventitious roots which are thin and grow outward from the plant above the soil with only a few roots deep in the soil for stability

Answer:

A fibrous root system is the opposite of a taproot system. It is usually formed by thin, moderately branching roots growing from the stem. A fibrous root system is universal in monocotyledonous plants and ferns. The fibrous root systems look like a mat made out of roots when the tree has reached full maturity.  Coconut is a monocot plant. Usually monocotyledon produce fibrous roots.

But mango tree is a dicotyledon. So it produce a tap root. The tap root can be persistent throughout the life of the plant but is most often replaced later in the plant's development by a fibrous root system. A persistent taproot system forms when the radicle keeps growing and smaller lateral roots form along the taproot.
