The endosperm is the result of the fertilization of two polar nuclei in the central cell of the embryo sac by one sperm cell nucleus, which generates a triploid (3n, 3C) nucleus, whereas the diploid (2n, 2C) embryo originates from fertilization of the egg cell by the second sperm cell nucleus
