Cohesion and adhesion in the ascent of xylem sap.

The theory states that transportation pull or tension , cohesion property of water and hydration of cell walls i.e. adhesion are collectively responsible for the ascent of sap .
A negative pressure or tension due to transportation is transmitted through the continuous water column with in xylem to the root.
