Coin and feather experiment and it's conclusion
Answers
Answer:
The coin and feather experiment is conducted to study the gravity acting on different objects.
Explanation:
The force of gravitation of earth is called gravity. All the objects on and above the surface of the earth will have an acceleration due to gravity. This acceleration depends only on the mass and radius of the earth. To prove that the mass of the falling body is not a parameter of the acceleration due to gravity, we use the coin and feather experiment.
The time taken for the feather and coin to reach the ground from the same height and the same time after a free fall is seen to be different. If gravity acting on all objects is the same, there should be no difference in the time of fall. If the coin and feather are allowed to fall in a vacuum on the surface of the earth, then the time of fall will be the same.
So we can conclude that air resistance is the reason behind the difference in the time of fall of the coin and feather. The gravity acting on the objects is the same irrespective of their masses.
