Destructive Distillation of Coal and Fractional Distillation of Petroleum have one similarity that both these processes use heat for Distillation.

And , difference between them is that Destructive Distillation is the process of separation of solids or ( volatile compounds) from that substance ( here coal ) in the absence of air , and in Fractional Distillation we separate a substance or liquid ( here Petroleum) into two or more fractions , simply separating liquid mixtures based on their boiling points .
