The poem, The Cold Within has social relevance in the contemporary times. Most of the people appear to have been suffering from the cold within for one another.

It is quite true in world of ours all sufferings and problems exist because of the ill-will harbored by all men and women against someone or something. This world would have been a real paradise if this ill-will were not there. All the wars, holocausts, ethnic-cleansings, terrorist attacks, etc. were the outcome of this ill-will only. Ill-will is much more deadly than the deadliest nukes; for nukes are also the product of ill-will.

In the poem, The Cold Within, the poet has beautiful portrayed this ill-will in men trapped in bitter cold. None of them offered their wooden log to keep the fire burning because they harbored il-will against one another. This led to the death of all.

So, we see how dangerous and insidious ill-will is for mankind.

Trees have innumerable benefits. Trees provide oxygen, purify air, give fruits, wood, etc. to human beings.

The Heart of the Tree by the American poet and novelist Henry Cuyler Bunner is a fine piece of poetry with a simple theme and a simpler structure. All three stanzas of the poem The Heart of the Tree begins with the poet's refrain wondering what the man who plants a tree is really wanting. He then chooses to answer it himself and shows the significance of the tree for the mankind and for nature, demonstrating how great this man is. The man shows the love he has for this planet, his sense of civic duty and his community blessings by planting a tree. The ' sap and leaf and wood ' are all expressed in every tree cell.

Explanation:

  • Planting a tree is an excellent job for the human race. But the poet has discovered new ways of seeing plants and plantations. He further glorifies the act in his poem The Heart of the Tree, demonstrates how a tree contributes to earth life and says, it has a direct connection with the growth of a country.
  • When the man plants a tree, he plants a place for the sweet song birds in the sky, close to the sky. He thus preserves the environment for birds and helps to protect the eco-system.  The tree that he plants gives us cool shade and helps to give rain. Trees are the main elements that make a plain area green and beautiful.. In addition, the single tree today could one day become a forest. Thus, the man now plants a forest heritage by planting a tree.
  • In the next days, the speaker said that tree planting today will bear fruit. It would be a joy for our next generation to see so much plant life and reap its benefits. So the man who plants a tree receives every credit. By planting a tree man, this world will be a better place to live for future generations.
  • The poet emphasizes the importance of trees for the protection of natural beauty. Furthermore, the use of terms such as ' heaven anigh ' and ' high peace ' attempts to demonstrate that the task of planting a tree is indeed a glorious, holy act.
