India is rich when it comes to the types of snakes found in the country. This is possible due to the large expanse of the country and the varying climates found there. There are, however, only a few common types of snakes found in the country and they are:

(i) The Indian Cobra
(ii) The Common Krait
(iii) The Russell's Viper
(iv) The Saw-scaled Viper

According to India mythology, snakes are considered as the entities of strength and renewal. Even though snakes are one of the reason for largest mortality rate in India, Indian worshiping snakes in many forms.  

Even though they are deadliest reptiles, some snake charmers and rope trick magicians in India utilize them for earnings, during festivals.

As everyone knows that ritual and spiritual traditions in Hinduism are always complex when compares to other religions.   Indus people worshiped snakes by associating them with Hindu gods Shiva and Vishnu. They related snakes with eternity, life as well as death, creation, preservation and destruction.

Other than just worshiping, Hindus carved and painted snake structures in the walls of religious places and transferred the snake worship to every generation.
