Shri D Vaikuntam, received the National award for Cheriyal painting in the year 2016.

The award was given by the honorable minister of Ministry of Textile.

Cheriyal painting is an ancient and traditional painting of the south of India particularly in the state of Telangana.  

Variety of designs is done through this painting, and even masks are also made by the artisans.

Many young talents are coming forward to learn and carry on with this traditional artwork.
