Electroplating is a process that uses electric current to reduce dissolved metal cations so that they form a thin coherent metal coating on an electrode. The term is also used for electrical oxidation of anions on to a solid substrate, as in the formation of silver chloride on silver wire to make silver or silver chloride electrodes. Electroplating is primarily used to change the surface properties of an object (such as abrasion and wear resistance, corrosion protection, lubricity aesthetic qualities), but may also be used to build up thickness on undersized parts or to form objects by electro forming.
this process is used when we need to prevent the corrosion of the metals

hope this answer helps you

Answer :

Cambridge English Dictionary defines 'electroplating' as 'to cover the surface of a metal object with a thin layer of a different metal, often silver, using electrolysis (= method that uses electric current).'

Electroplating can be used in daily life in the following manner :

1. Gold and silver plating is used to make attractive ornaments at low cost.

2. Zinc coating is done in industrial objects and machinery parts.

3. Chromium coating is used to add shine and lustre to objects like handles of cycles in order to prevent corrosion.
