electroplating is a process where a thin layer of metal on other by some electro-deposition processes. in this, both anode and cathode are immersed in an electrolyte solution. then a direct current (DC current) is passed through them and effecting the metal ions onto the existing product (cathode).

it's basically done to prevent rusting and corrosion of metals. we know that metals react with oxygen and water to form rust. that's why electroplating is done to prevent them.

some examples where electroplating is used :-

⏺used to coat artificial jwelery. to make it look shiner and smooth and it's also very cheap as compared to the real ones.

⏺ electroplating is also done in different parts of car parts.

⏺ it's done on door handles, taps and other things to prevent corrosion.

⏺ it's also used to reduce friction by applying a certain kind of metal over another.
