1)The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), seeks to promote the welfare of the peoples of South Asia, strengthen collective self-reliance, promote active collaboration and mutual assistance in various fields, and cooperate with international and regional organizations.

2) SAARC was formed as regional cooperation in 1985.

3) The founding members of the SAARC organization are India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives & Afghanistan which joined them in the year 2005.

4) The principles of SAARC are _ Cooperation within the framework of the Association shall be based on respect for the principles of sovereign equality, territorial integrity, political independence, non-interference in the internal affairs of other states and mutual benefit.
