Types of fuels used for cooking in the area where I live are :
1. Charcoal : for chullahs. Very few poor people.
2. Wood : for chullahs. Very few poor people.
3. Liquefied Petroleum Gas or LPG cylinders : with gas stove. Almost everyone.
4. Kerosene : for stoves. Few poor people.
5. Electricity : for microwaves, toasters and electric kettles. The higher middle class and rich people.
Burning a hydrocarbon fuel like coal, oil or gas with oxygen taken from the air produces carbon dioxide and causes pollution. Gas is supposed to be the least polluting among the carbon fuels. Its atom is lighter and less CO2 is produced for a given amount of energy output.
