Tissue culture is the growth of cells or tissues separate from the organism. It requires a solid,semi-solid or a liquid growth medium along with aseptic conditions to facilitate the growth of cells and tissues in-vitro.

Tissue culture can be of two main types-

Plant tissue culture

Animal tissue culture

\textbf{Tissue Culture }:

In this method a small piece of tissue is cut off from the Top of a plant. This is then placed in an artificial medium containing some hormones under appropriate conditions.

This develops into callus, which is then transferred to another nutrient medium containing plant hormones. Here this multiples and when this transferred to moist soil they grow further.

for example, Asparagus, Orchids develops by this method.
