Answer:

The word Bhakthi means devotion to God. The devotion towards a particular deity or form of God.

Explanation:

The Shaiva Nayanar saints and Vaishnava Alvar saints of South India spread the doctrine of bhakti among different sections of society irrespective of caste during the period between the seventh and the tenth centuries. Some of these saints came from the lower castes and some were women. They dispensed with rituals and traversed the region several times singing, dancing and advocating bhakti. The Alvar and Nayanar saints used the Tamil language and not Sanskrit for preaching and composing devotional songs. These features helped the Bhakti Movement to gain popularity.

The Shaiva saints were called Nayanars and the Vaishnava saints were called Alvars and both of them flourished during the seventh and the eighth centuries.
