A body is said to be in motion when there is change in position of a particle overtime.

Explanation:

Motion is mainly of three types:

Translational motion

  • A body possessing curved or straight line motion without any rotational movement is said to be in translational motion.
  • It is was three kinds: linear motion where the body moves in a straight line, circular where the body moves in a circular or curved path, Random motion which is irregular motion or a zig-zag path.
  • Example of linear motion is motion of car on road.
  • Example of circular motion is motion of electrons around the nucleus.
  • Example of random motion is motion of insects or flies.

Rotational motion

  • Spinning motion of any body about an axis is called rotational motion.
  • Example of rotational motion is earth rotating about its axis.

Vibrational motion

  • Motion of a body about a mean position.
  • The body moves to and fro about a fixed point in vibratory motion.
  • Example of vibratory motion is a pendulum swinging when hanged through a string.
