Answer:

HL Dattu, Chief Justice of India, in an effort to assess the judgments made by High Courts, has ordered the courts to file details of verdicts they make to the Supreme Court. This move is going to be assessing the quality of the verdicts which is made by high courts and is an initiative first of its kind.

Until now courts have only been known to send statistics related to case disposal to the apex court.

Dattu mentioned in his letter that the decision has been taken ‘In order to ascertain quantitative as well as qualitative disposal of cases by hon’ble chief justice/hon’ble judges of high court, you are requested to provide’ delivered judgments, reported the Economic Times. As the data sent is currently restricted to numbers, the system will be tweaked to understand the quality and quantity of judgments being made. The letter has also sought the resumes of chief justices and judges in a format specified “as per (the) annexure”.
