Collect some muddy water in a transparent glass tumbler.
See the colour of this water. Now take a Muslin cloth; cover and tie the mouth with the Muslin cloth on the second class tumbler. Pour the muddy water onto the Muslin cloth which is used as a filter. Do you find any Residue on the cloth?
