Many birds migrate to Mumbai every year. Some of them are as below.

• Flamingo- around 20,000 flamingos visit Sewri mudflats. They are found there in large number as plenty of food is available. They are also found near Vikroli, Airoli and Vashi.

• Lesser Sand Plover - are found in large numbers near Navi Mumbai and   Belapur region.

• Herons- Near Sewri mudflats different types of herons are found- grey, whitish-grey,purple etc.

• Tern- Their beaks are like gulls. They are found near Mumbai and Navi Mumbai coastal region.

• Black and brown headed gulls - are found near Thane creek, Mumbai coast and Navi Mumbai coastal region.
• Kingfisher- White throated kingfisher can be spotted near Sewri

• Jacana- They are found near Dombivli at Nilje lake.  

For the bird lovers the best time to visit coastal region is two hours before high tide and two hours after high tide.
