Ferric hydroxide sol is prepared by the hydrolysis of ferric chloride with boiling distilled water. The reaction takes place is as follows. The hydrolysis reaction produces insoluble ferric hydroxide particles which undergo agglomerisation to yield bigger particles of colloidal dimensions.
