Colonial administrators found novels useful as it provided them with a variety of information needed for governing Indian society. These novels were a valuable source of information on Indian life and customs.

The Britishers knew very little about Indian family life and society. The vernacular novels gave details about the domestic life, clothes, religious practices and beliefs of our society. Many of these novels were translated into English, so the Britishers easily got the required information.

Many novels delt with casteism and the evil practices in the society which gave colonisers the knowledge of topics which can be used to tackle the indian mob and gain their sympathetical support.

Now it became easy for the colonisers to divert the indians from revolts for freedom to accepting the British Raj . Everyday novels by the subordinates of the colonisers had a great impact on the minda of indians and now colonisers had an edge over the nationalists.
