colonies of yeast do not multiply in water but multiply in sugar. Give one reason for this.

The sugar solutions provide the yest with a food source,so they can respire and therefore multiply.The water contain no food source,water does not provide energy to the yest cell to multiply therefore the colonies of yest can be desollve in water
