Colour of iron sulphate solution does not change when copper turnings are dipped in dipped in it
Answers
displacement reaction does not take place because cu is less reactive than iron hence cu cannot displace iron from its salt solution
In simple words, the answer can be explained as :-
Copper is much less reactive than iron and hence is not in a position to displace iron from its aqueous solution. Basically there is no reaction taking place an the greenish iron sulphate solution remains.
The actual reason is, that copper has a higher reduction potential value than iron, hence copper can easily oxidise iron from 0 to a positive state.
The reaction that is supposed to take place here is, copper must reduce iron from +2 state to 0 state, but owing to a high reduction potential value than iron, it is unable to do so.
Hence there is no colour change observed.
