Explanation:
Iodine acts as an indicator of starch. So, when iodine gets onto the leaf and starch is present, it turns blue black. But first and foremost, boil the leaf in alcohol so the chlorophyll dissolves in the alcohol and it doesn't confuse you with the color mix of brown and green( brown is the color the leaf becomes if it has no starch).
