The Sun appears larger at sunrise than it does while higher in the sky, in a manner similar to the Moon illusion. ... Sometimes just before Answer:sunrise or after sunset a green flash can be seen. This is an optical phenomenon in which a green spot is visible above the Sun, usually for no more than a second or two.

The colour of the sun at the time of sunrise and sunset appears reddish. During the time of sunrise or sunset, the sun actually lies below the horizon. The rays coming from the sun has to travel a larger part of the atmosphere since the rays are slanting towards the earth's atmosphere. So, the colour with shorter wavelength such as blue, violet, indigo etc. get scattered away. The colour with longer wavelength is least scattered. Therefore, some of the red colour appears during the time of sunset or sunrise
