John Donne was as great satirist. In those times. elegies and satires used to have great meanings to people and it would be used to present a number of facts and comparisons.

So John Donne was in of the greatest metaphysical poets of all poems. There used to be satirical elements in his poems. "The Good Morrow" is a wonderful poem written by him. For example there is a reference of seven sleepers den, or about a good morrow to the waking souls, etc.

During the period of 1590, he wrote a total of five satires. These satires used to have certain obscure meanings and often very humorous. They used to mock the society and its people.

For example the first satire criticized about the puritan middle class sections of London to a major extent. So satire used to serve as an element to ridicule the people living at those times.
