The midwife's behaviour and role was in perfect contrast to that of Dr. Andrew Manson. The midwife did not believe in miracles; she accepted the newly born child as dead and threw it under the bed.
However, Dr. Andrew not only believed in miracles, his training and knowledge about medical cases was quite comprehensive. He did not stop until he had brought the child back to life.
