The title "Lamb to the Slaughter" has its origin in the Bible. The phrase symbolizes top be the person who moves towards the dangerous and threatening situation of life because of his innocence and unconcern. This symbolizes the way the lambs go forward for the slaughter. In the poem, there are two instances which proves this situation. The murder victim moves forward and murders even after knowing that it was something uncomfortable to go to. Mary is also an example of such a situation. She moves forward as she was unaware of what was coming after her.

Answer:

The writer of the story had referred to the Bible when he named the story Lamb to the Slaughter.

The bible says that innocents and naive persons usually become victims of dangerous situations because they unknowingly place themselves in such positions.

Like a lamb, Mary is a very innocent and naive who murdered her husband without thinking about the consequences.
