The title of the play is 'Dear Departed' means someone who is very close , beloved and very dear to us has passed away or has died . But as the play progresses, we come to know that the grandfather, the head of the family whom the whole family thought to be dead was actually not dead , neither he was dear to any of his daughters. All they cared about was his money, possessions and belongings. And in the play we have manier times witnessed that too. All the family members were selfish and unkind. And in this Grandfather was also not dead neither cared for by his family members.
