Answer:
The irony of this story tells us about the I'll consequences of war and conflicts, which even the common people who do not have anything to do with it, have to pay the price. Mothers and women have to part from their sons and husbands who go to fight the war and rarely return back. Many small children and helpless are mothers are killed. Many such innocent people are killed without any reason. These pain are depicted through the old man who narrates his story to a soldier nearby who comes to him to warn him about the approaching enemies. He tells that he did not have any family but only some animals he took care of. They were the only members of his family. But due to war he had to leave them and flee away. The thought of his animals kept on ruining the mental state of the man such that even after being told a way to escape , he did not move further but sat down to rest himself, for he was tired of walking for such a long distance. This is only a small part of the endless miseries and sorrows that the people suffer from during a war.
