When plants receive sun's energy from light, they utilize it to for their various chores like processing food energy, keeping them alive, etc. Also, they store some of the energy. The plants either get eaten or die in the soil. The predator eating it produces excreta which also dissolves in the soil. If the animal dies, then too the food energy is transferred to soil (it is burnt and buried).
The soil then absorbs the nutrients or energy and this energy is again utilized in growing of plants or nutrition of plants.

Thus one way or another, the energy received by sun by plants returns to the environment.

Hey dear friend

The energy of sun which is trapped by green plants ultimately returns to the environment. When the plants take sunlight from sun then they made food with the help of sunlight , chlorophyll and water through the process of photosynthesis. This food is stored in the form of starch. Human beings and animals take this food which is made by plants. This food contains sunlight which go in our body when we take food. So, we can conclude that all energy of sun which is trapped by plants ultimately returns to the environment. In other words, we can say that all energy of sun is coming indirectly to us.
