The working conditions at that time were not very favorable the workers used to work around 14 to 16 hours a day and for that, the wage rate was quite low and at that time because of the fewer workers available, the child labor was also at its peak.
Men were paid really fewer wages and women were paid even lesser than that and children were given no wages at all. And the timings of the work were depended upon the sunrise and the sunset, they would come to work early in the morning and would leave when the sun sets, there were no specific timings with only one break with the very limited time span. And because of the invention of the electric bulb, the workers used to work even after the sunset.
Since the people in that time were poor so they worked extra in order to earn more money so they could afford a basic lifestyle for themselves. The owners were really strict in terms of the working conditions they would hold back the money in order to make the workers work with dedication.
